ECOTHERAPY
What is Ecotherapy?
Reconnect with yourself through ecotherapy, in the form of 'walk-and-talk' sessions set around peaceful fishing lakes at Manor Farm, where calm waters and natural surroundings create the perfect space for reflection and growth.
Why Walk-and-Talk sessions?
Unlike traditional indoor counselling, walk-and-talk therapy allows conversations to flow more naturally as you move side by side with your therapist, often making it easier to open up without the intensity of face-to-face settings. The gentle rhythm of walking, combined with fresh air and the soothing presence of nature, can help reduce stress, improve mood, and support clearer thinking.
What happens?
In practice, sessions take place along quiet lakeside paths at a comfortable pace, with pauses whenever needed, allowing you to talk, reflect, or simply take in the environment—creating a flexible, grounding therapeutic experience tailored to you.
Who is this suitable for?
Walk-and-talk therapy sessions can suit a wide range of people, particularly those who feel more comfortable opening up in a relaxed, informal setting rather than a traditional therapy room. They’re often a good fit for individuals experiencing stress, anxiety, low mood, or mild to moderate depression, as the combination of movement and nature can help regulate emotions and reduce mental overwhelm. Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR) can also be carried out through this approach which can help with feeling more grounded.
They can also be especially helpful for people who find sitting still or maintaining eye contact difficult, including those who feel self-conscious, stuck, or pressured in face-to-face conversations. Many clients find that walking side by side creates a sense of ease and equality, making it easier to express thoughts and feelings. Our clients with ADHD and Autism can find this style of therapy particularly helpful.
Walk-and-talk sessions may appeal to those who already enjoy being outdoors or feel a natural connection to nature, as well as people looking for a more holistic approach to wellbeing that integrates both mind and body. However, they may be less suitable for individuals with mobility challenges, severe mental health conditions requiring more structured support, or those who would prefer the privacy and containment of an indoor space.
